What is a dragonfruit margarita and why you’ll love it

Let’s start with the base of this cocktail - the classic margarita. Consisting of tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup, the margarita is a classic in my book and definitely a go to cocktail for all occasions. It was invented around the 1930s in Mexico and has held popularity over the years for its simple ingredients and bold flavor.

A dragonfruit margarita is a margarita that has dragonfruit concentrate added to it, giving it a bright pink color and a little extra sweetness. Have you ever seen such a beautiful pink cocktail?

I bought this dragonfruit concentrate from Trader Joe’s on a whim and wasn’t immediately certain what to do with it until I realized it would make the perfect mixer for a cocktail!

FAQ

  • The standard margarita glass is best for frozen or blended margaritas. For a margarita on the rocks, I like to use a tumbler.

  • Absolutely! You just need a blender and a lot of ice. Instead of using the cocktail shaker, add all ingredients into the blender and use your margarita glass to measure out a cup of ice per serving and add that to the blender and blend together until chunks of ice become tiny like a slushie.

Try chilling your glass in the freezer to help the drink stay frozen longer.

  • Yes you can! I recommend swapping the simple syrup for orange juice or pineapple juice.
